All about GTC

How will it work?

Moving the giant

The telescope’s moving parts will be connected by a large number of pipes and cables, which can become jumbled or twisted. For this reason, the GTC has been designed with cable wraps to compensate for the motion of the different moving parts relative to one another. These will make sure the cables stay in the right place and that any tension in them, which could compromise the telescope’s movement, is kept to a minimum.
